i will be traveling to japan in early april ‘07 and i was trying to find a good book about japan to help me prepare for the trip. this is my first international trip. in the past, i have used the dummies books (i.e., hawaii for dummies, etc) and they have been very helpful, however, they do not make one for japan. i went to the book store and i was able to find a couple good books on customs and etiquette of japan, as well as, a basic japanese phrase book. i guess i’m looking for more of a travel guide book (i.e., where to stay, tips on getting around, best cherry blossom sites, etc)….frommers makes a book, but was hoping there was something simpler out there (like the dummies books). i should also mention that i will be spending my time in tokyo. thanks for your help.

I’m traveling to Israel and hired an independent tour guide directly (no middle person). Since the entire daily fee goes directly to the guide, do I still have to tip? If so, what is a reasonable amount. I accustomed to tipping based on per person, per day. Could use some “guidance” (pun intended).

Our party will dwindle to 2 ladies after our Ireland trip. We will be in Europe for 3 months and are starting in Ireland for 21 days then off to Netherlands and so on and so on. We will end up in Paris on 6/5/08 by way of Italy. We will be doing this trip on a shoestring staying in Hostels and using public transportation. We have all of the guide books that we can stand right now. What we want is the real thing as far as travel tips and how to do it good. Imagine that ur a fourteenth centrury african trader who has made the trans-Saharan journey several times u want to share ur knoweledge about the journey by creating a travel guide with tips to helpf first-time travelers survive the rigorous trip.
you need an introduction that explains why u have made the trans-Saharan journey so many x’s and why it is worth taking the trip?
