Saving money for a secret family summer vacation for next year?
Written by master on June 10th, 2009I believe my family deserves a summer vacation for next year. I’m in college and do have a job and know how to save money wisely. But I would like to save money secretly without my parents knowing it will be for a vacation for the whole family. There are 4 of us in the family. I can budget really well and since this is the first time I’m going to pull such a surprise on them, I would like to know what I need to put in thought. I know I must consider the cost of a hotel room or a cabin (since my family loves the outdoors), money for gas, money for food, money for souvenirs, emergency money and etc… What is an reasonable amount to put away for next summer every 2 weeks???
I’m only 21 years old so I just need some advice from people that have done this before… I don’t know exactly what amount of money I should be shooting for either…
I want the summer vacation to be a good and worry free experience. The last time my family has been on an actual vacation was when I was in elementary school.
We’ll most likely vacation in our home state. I know my mom has been hinting a certain state park to vacation at. So I will choose that place for this surprise summer vacation.
Please and thank you for your help and advice…
I am very well aware of emergency road kits… Sorry I should have added that in. I’m a nature wanderer so I know about the emergency kits and first aid… Thanks!!!!

I am in the tourism business and it has to deal a lot with the location you select. Is you want a vacation in Carmel, or Manhattan the price is very different than if you want it in Mazatlan Mexico. I can talk on a vacation in Mazatlan Mexico for 4 people. And I would say here Mazatlán México a good way to put ir is 300US dolars total a day the four of you pluss your air fare. That is $300 times 14 pluss round air tickets if you want 2 weeks including everything, try to see our option.

if i am in your shoes, i will pick the destination first. You can have a few candidates at the beginning and then research for the major cost items: activities cost and lodging cost. Then compare and make your final decision before you consider other issues. You don’t want to drive thousand miles away and don’t know what you can do there. I’ve planned the family vacation by myself, so i know it takes a lot of energy.
