Our party will dwindle to 2 ladies after our Ireland trip. We will be in Europe for 3 months and are starting in Ireland for 21 days then off to Netherlands and so on and so on. We will end up in Paris on 6/5/08 by way of Italy. We will be doing this trip on a shoestring staying in Hostels and using public transportation. We have all of the guide books that we can stand right now. What we want is the real thing as far as travel tips and how to do it good. Any help will be really great this is the trip of a lifetime we have been saving for three years to do this one and it is our big who rah trip…thank you in advance for your help….reva

as far as places to see in ireland? my favorite place i went to was the Ring of Kerry in southern ireland. also limmerick, cobh, cork, kinsdale, blarney (the kissing stone is a must), glendalough (im not sure on the spelling but its the old church of st. Kevin).
Dublin of course, check out the Guiness factory its awesome. with the price of the tour you get a free pint at the end. But if you werent talking about places to go and were just asking about transportation, everythings very accesible and you can reach all those places by train. you might have to pay for a tour for the ring of kerry. and there are always taxi’s and buses and whatnot. Have fun! its so damn green over there compared to the states i loved it.

I had a flying visit of Ireland….I hired a car, which I actually found incredibly useful as I could go to some out of the way places and what not easily and I stayed in B&B’s ( of which there are LOTS and good value in out of the way places).
With 3 people paying you might find it a decent option, at least for a few days.
Ireland is actually quite small, but the roads in general are not fast flowing ( I got stuck in traffic a few times).
I liked aspects of Ireland…..many of my ancestors came from here and I was very keen to go, but when I look back on my travels, Ireland does not rate in my top 6 or 7 places… I will say its nice and green tho…..
I found Cork an expensive place to stay…..it was the most expensive place I stayed, I visted Cobh ( said Cove) nearby which was lovely and probably one of the nicest towns I visted.
Kilkenny was nice too.
I drove round the Dingle Pensinular ( its the area where most of my ancestors came from) and I actually liked it…there are some narrow roads, but some pretty cool bits to see.
Dublin was nice….
The Rock of Cashel…again nice…but raining when I visited.
There was a cool old monestary I visited…I can’t even remember where it was, but I took a photo of some old carvings and say the exact same picture in a lonely planet guide later!!!
I went to Tralee, Limerick…and another place I can’t even remember now!! Kil something…sad really.
I would have liked to have seen the giants causeway and maybe some more isolated coastlines and more out of the way places, but as I was limited for time eg 5 nights I didn ‘t see much and drove like a demon to get to the SW coast area, which was my main point of interest.
Have a great time…I guess you will be meandering around and enjoying your time there, compared to my whirlwind visit.
